Design restaurants you need to know: Les Jardins du Presbourg, Paris

In our series of restaurants with stunning interiors for design lovers, Effect Magazine searches the world for beautiful eateries which have elevated the senses through exceptional attention to interior design. This week, we visit Les Jardins du Presbourg near the Arc de Triomphe, Paris

A bold rejection of today’s codes of restaurant minimalism, you won’t find any exposed brick walls or simple concrete slabs at Martin Brudnizki’s Les Jardins du Presbourg, a new Parisian address opened at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe.

Designed as an interior garden by the renowned Swedish designer, you’ll be enveloped in a dreamlike space of wall-to-wall murals depicting leafy lavish gardens, splashes of golden leaves decorating the ceiling above the bar, and dramatic columns that glow with golden light.

“Les Jardins du Presbourg marked the first time working with the iconic Beaumarly Group, and has seen us develop a restaurant that feels as though it is situated within the gardens of Paris, and not just a stone’s throw from the bustling Arc de Triomphe,” explains Brudnizki. “I wanted the restaurant to feel like a hidden oasis in the heart of Paris, and so commissioned hand-painted murals depicting scenes of garden frivolity and layered it with the glamourous overture of Parisian style and sensibility.”

While that might sound a tad loud and gaudy to some, it is executed with such conviction that the effect comes across like a piece of living art. Les Jardins du Presbourg is also one of Brudnizki’s most daring projects to date, with its dazzling colour palette of blues and gold accented by a tone of pink and a star motif, grounding the design to the restaurant’s close proximity to L’Etoile. In a time defined by doom and gloom, that has to be a good thing.
